TOC doctors receive national recognition, complete sports medicine certification
Dr. Michael Casey has received the Jack C. Hughston, MD, Southeast Athletic Trainers' Association (SEATA) Sports Medicine Person of the Year. This award is given to the person who has contributed to SEATA and athletic training as a profession. Both medical and non-medical persons are eligible. It is the highest award given to a person who may not be an athletic trainer and is designed to show the district's appreciation for particular contributions to the field of athletic training in the southeast. Dr. Casey was also recently honored by the Tennessee Athletic Trainers Society as the 2008 Sports Medicine Person of the Year. Congratulations, Dr. Casey!
Also, Dr. Richard Cunningham, Dr. John Reynolds and Dr. Casey have recently passed the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery's Sports Medicine specialty exam, earning board certification in sports medicine. The exam is open only to board certified orthopaedic surgeons whose practice predominantly consists of treating athletes and sports related injuries. Certification requires completion of a peer review process and a Board review of at least 125 surgical cases. This is the first time the subspecialty certificate has been offered. TOC is honored to have such dedicated and talented physicians as part of our staff.
