Medicare Scams

Have you received a phone call from someone asking you for your personal information or your new Medicare card number?
Scam artists are contacting Medicare card holders impersonating medical clinics, physicians’ offices and hospitals to falsely obtain your information. No one from the Medicare office will ever call you unsolicited and ask for that information.
If you are contacted and asked to give your Medicare card number and your social security number, hang up the phone and call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
The new Medicare number, also called the Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI), is replacing the current Social Security-based Health Insurance Claim Number (HICN).
We will continue to accept the HICN through the transition period.
