He grew up and attended school in Michigan, obtaining his Masters in 2003, but Colin Heenan would travel to 46 states and eight countries before landing in Knoxville at Tennessee Orthopaedic Clinics.
His interest in athletic training began when he participated in an internship at Western Michigan University. “I enjoyed being able to help athletes. I quickly realized that an athletic trainer wasn’t just limited to taping ankles. It’s a field of medicine based on injury prevention. That was intriguing to me.”
Colin started at TOC in 2006 providing medical coverage for the University of Tennessee Intramurals and Club Sports, as well as assist with patient care at TOC’s Fort Sanders Regional location.
“TOC is the medical provider for UT RecSports. I have an athletic training room at the Student Rec center on campus, as well as, the new RecSports Fields off of Sutherland Ave.  I am there evenings during the week to cover IM games and club practices, and weekends for home club events such as soccer, rugby, hockey, and lacrosse.”
As TOC’s Sports Medicine Coordinator, he is also responsible for overseeing and coordinating the medical coverage that TOC provides to local high school, college, and community teams. His staff includes five full time and several part time Certified Athletic Trainers.
Colin’s interests include running marathons. He has run six total as well as a 300 mile team trail race across Michigan seven times.
