Hand and Wrist Surgery

Your hands and wrists are made up of an intricate balance of tendons, joints and bone. That’s why it’s so important you see a doctor with extensive training and experience if you’ve injured your hand or wrist, have arthritic pain or sustained a possible fracture. We also see many patients who are suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and help many relieve the pain and stiffness in their hands both surgically and non-surgically.

We recommend that anyone who is experiencing chronic or acute pain that is interfering with daily activities make an appointment to see one of our specialists, Hand and wrist conditions can make the simplest task, like opening a jar, difficult and painful. Many patients wait to see a doctor because they think it’s just getting old or arthritis. Don’t just assume there is nothing you can do about. Talk with a hand and wrist doctor to find out how you can improve your quality of life.

  • Joint pain in your fingers or wrist
  • Numbness, tingling, pain, or weakness in the thumb
  • A decline in movement of fingers, hand, or wrist
  • Pain between your knuckles on top of the hand
  • Constant finger pain from typing too much
  • Hand or wrist pain from a repetitive motion hobby, like crocheting or gaming

Lessening movement in your hand is not a normal part of aging. Activities like fastening a button, picking up tiny objects, and holding utensils should not be difficult to do. While you may feel like aging makes you slow down, it should not cause limited movement. If you struggle to open and close your hand, hold onto an object, or complete a natural motion, you should be seen by a specialist.

Doing normal or repetitive activities for a short to moderate time should not cause you pain. You don’t have to feel like you need to “muscle through” hand pain. If you’re dealing with hand pain, you may have pinched nerves, swelling, grating bone, or strained tendons that can be treated.

You don’t have to live with limited hand and wrist use. Our hand doctors are here to help you get back to your regular activities. We’d be happy to assess your hand issues and develop a plan. Hand or wrist surgery is certainly an option, but our doctors can evaluate whether physical therapy, medication, or environmental changes may help.
